Recovering Japan

I’d just bought tickets to see Graham Parker, a musician I followed back in the late 70s/early 80s, and put him on my iPod while heading out for a run. His song Discovering Japan came on and with the tragedy in Japan fresh in my memory, I thought Recovering Japan might be a good brand for a relief effort. So John cooked up a quick logo for it, and I ironed it on a t-shirt before heading off to the show at Jammin’ Java. Graham played two extraordinary sets and in between, I knocked on the backstage door and showed him my shirt. Toward the end of the second set, he told the audience about the tee-shirt and played Discovering Japan, and then after the show gave me his address so I could send him one. I also sent it off to the American Red Cross to see if they might be interested in doing something with it perhaps in conjunction with Graham. It seems even more important now that the mainstream media has moved on to the news du jour, from Middle East unrest to Bin Laden’s execution.
